Rhode Island Educational Loan Repayment Program For Primary Care Providers
To Be Eligible …
Licensed physicians (MDs or DOs), nurse practitioners and physician assistants newly recruited to practice in Rhode Island and work in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics are currently eligible to apply.
The Rhode Island Primary Care Educational Loan Repayment Committee will be making final decisions on who is awarded loan repayment and will determine loan forgiveness awards. The physician program provides awards of up to $20,000 annually for four years for individuals, for a total maximum award of $80,000. The nurse practitioner and physician assistant program provide awards of up to $10,000 annually for four years, for a total maximum award of $40,000. Eligible health care providers must provide an average of 32 hours of direct patient care per week during each year of service.
Awards go directly to pay educational loans and in general cannot exceed 50% of the candidate’s level of educational debt.
